Iconic Live albums

Iconic Live albums

Live albums. We all love them and they are some of the best, most classic albums. Here are some of our greatest live hits.

Deep Purple - Made In Japan

It’s strange to think this was a budget album when it was released. Utterly iconic, you could walk to school with this under your arm and feel like rock royalty. As an item in itself with its gold cover, it felt special. It might be really familiar to you, but if you’ve heard the other nights performances, they’re quite different. Highway Star especially.

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same

Critics slammed the film and album but I adored it. That half an hour of Dazed And Confused is majestic and who amongst us hasn’t been to an all-night showing of rock films at a local cinema and enjoyed the movie amongst a gang of drunken  ha\iry men?

Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous

How much is live has always been the debate. Somewhere between a lot and not much. I must have known every single noise on the record from start to finish. It was a record to grow up with and the solo on Still Love With You is Robbo’s finest moment.

Wishbone Ash - Live Dates

Their finest album may be Argus but this double was the album you walked around with and showed off. They were just famous enough to feel like you were hip. The first twin guitars most of us had heard, it was essential

Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour ‘74

Never really huge, this only got to #36, but I bet it’s loved by everyone you knew. Quintessential blues rock that continues to influence guitarists. Its simple text cover made it look like a bootleg was perfect for an honest grafter.

Allman Brothers Band - Live At Fillmore East

Hard to find the words to describe the music on this album. Telepathic jamming and spacial in-the-pocket drumming, it set an olympic standard of musicianship, but did you know, it never charted in the UK, in fact only Brothers And Sisters charted at #42.
