Was a Welsh musician. He was the founder, guitarist, primary songwriter and sole consistent member of the blues rock band Savoy Brown, which he formed in 1965. Simmonds had led Savoy Brown since its inception, appearing on every Savoy Brown release. The first album came out in 1967 in the UK and 1968 in America, where they remained very popular, where they had 13 consecutively charting albums and three minor hit singles. In UK only 1970’s ‘Looking In’ charted at #50. He kept going, a bluesman to the end, dying in 2022 aged 75. I saw him in 2018 and he was a fantastic blues player, still vital.
