About the Product
Sounds of the South was a short-lived record label owned by Al Kooper. After relocating to Atlanta in early autumn 1972, Al conceived of Sounds of the South while seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd at Funochio's House of Rock. In early 1973, Sounds Of The South Productions was launched to oversee Mose Jones's debut recording.
It was officially created in September 1973 as a joint label and production agreement with MCA Records, with many of its recordings engineered at Studio One, Doraville, a local facility Kooper later co-owned with producer Buddy Buie. In 1974, the label ceased operations, Koop sold it to MCA with subsequent reissues released under the MCA brand.
