Great Rock Venues : Edinburgh Playhouse

Opened as a cinema in 1929, it's still one of the biggest gigs to play in UK with over 3,000 seats. Or it would be if they put gigs on there any more but they don't. It's all musicals these days. 
Back in the day, it was where every big touring rock band came to play. I saw Steely Dan, CSN and the Grateful Dead here to name but three. If you sit at the back of the balcony, it is so high up and steep that it feels like you are on the edge of a cliff. Hopefully one day it will echo to the sound of electric guitars again.
